Avery Glenn Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 21, 2024.
Avery Julia Glenn was born August 14, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan. She was the eldest child born to Charity Irene Jackson and Richard Jeffries.
Avery received her education through the Detroit Public School system graduating with honors from Southeastern High School. After graduating she studied nursing at Eloise.
She accepted Christ under the leadership of Pastor Boyd. As an adult she moved her membership to Second Ebenezer serving on the Nurses Guild under the leadership of Bishop Edgar Vann.
Avery was an advocate for community, and her career was a reflection of her love for community and people. She was an Intake Counselor for the Detroit Rescue Mission and also worked as an adult homecare specialist. She then decided to try entrepreneurship and became the owner of the Zodiac Lounge located on 7 mile and Dequindre.
Avery was a God-fearing, loving, motivated and hard driven mother of five boys: Kevin, Curtis, Richard, Mark, and Nicholas. God gave her a bonus son, Terence Tee Jackson. She loved her sons immensely and kept them busy. She loved playing baseball and skating, just as much as they did. She dedicated a number of years to serving as secretary for her Motorcycle Associations. Avery was also a member of the Eastern Star. Friends are hard to come by, but Avery was blessed with Zandra, Elaine, Tina, Juanita and Baby Gee.
Avery was known by family and those close to her as "Sweetie" and later picked up the nickname "Red". The two terms of endearment collided and she became affectionately known as "Sweet Red".
Avery loved to cook for others and was known for her mac and cheese, spaghetti, catfish, black eyed peas and hot water cornbread. She had such a loving and caring spirit. She was always doing something to uplift others mentally and spiritually. She made herself available at all times it didn't matter the time or day if you needed her, she would be there.
Cliff and Avery met on October 3, 1980. Often referred to as Bonnie and Clyde when you saw one you saw the other. From the moment they met, they never left each other's side. During the Covid 19 Pandemic they joined Word of Truth Temple of Jesus Christ under the leadership of Pastor Kim Butler serving faithfully to the Tuesday and Thursday conference calls.
Avery made her transition from labor to reward, Tuesday March 19 at 6:07 am. She leaves to cherish her husband, Clifford Everage; son, Nicholas Glenn (Nicole); grandchildren, Richard, Curtis, Mark Julian, Kevin, Toya; numerous great and great great grandchildren; her beloved dog, Joe; a host of cousins other relatives and friends.
A visitation for Avery will be held Friday, March 29, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236. A funeral service will occur Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 12:00 PM at A. H. Peters Funeral Home.

We called her Julie. I remember she was one of the prettiest, tallest ebony queens that I knew. She rode a motorcycle which I thought was such a "boss" move. Her voice was soothing and calm. When I saw her she always shared a word of wisdom. Loved her immensely. Rest in paradise Queen
