Avis Adams

NEWPORT- Avis Elizabeth (Reed) Adams, went to be with the lord on July 2nd, 2024. Avis was born in Stetson on July 29th, 1935. A daughter of Norman and Goldie (Sevey) Reed.
Avis moved to Corinna in 1945, where she attended Corinna Elementary school and Junior High school, where she graduated from Corinna Union Academy in 1954. Avis went to Connecticut in 1955 working at Woolworth's and on an apple orchard for a short period of time. Avis then returned to Corinna a few years later due to the ill health of her father. She then went to work at Snowflake Canning Co., the offices of Mr. Robert Sloan, and in the offices of Fayscott in Dexter until her marriage.
Avis married Gilbert W. Adams on June 10th, 1961. After her marriage, she worked at Northeast Shoe, Guilford Industries in Newport, Prays Motel, and EST in Pittsfield where she retired in 1997 after 14 years. Avis belonged to the Corinna Grange and joined the eastern Star in 1957, where she held many offices and was Worthy Matron in Corinna and Newport.
Avis enjoyed fishing and camping, especially on the coast where she and Gilbert could get lobsters right off the boat. She also enjoyed listening to country music, cheering for the Red Sox, and shopping with her son before he was married. Avis is survived by her son Dana, and special daughter in law Becky, and 2 very special grandchildren Drew, and Arrow, and a special niece Janice Smith.
Avis is predeceased by her parents, her husband Gilbert, her two sisters Mary and Arlene, and her two brothers, Theron, and Darrell.
Memorial donations can be made to Nokomis Chapter 42 Newport Order of the Eastern Star. Visiting hours will be held at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home in Newport on July 13th, 2024, from 11am-1pm, with a graveside committal following at North Newport Cemetery.
