Gary Chambers

Gary A. Chambers, 85, of Dexter, passed away March 2, 2026, at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

He was born January 26, 1941, in Hartland, the son of Alva and Bernice (Wintle) Chambers.

Gary worked as a mechanic for many years before opening his own business, Chambers Garage, in Dexter in 1983. He proudly ran the garage until his retirement in 2020.

Gary loved racing; he was a racer at heart. Over the years he raced on many tracks throughout Maine. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cribbage with friends. Gary especially loved going to camp, where he enjoyed watching the wildlife and feeding the rabbits and birds.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Madeline Chambers of Dexter; four sons, Van Chambers and wife Jody of Dover-Foxcroft, Steve Chambers and wife Carolyn of Corinth, Tim Chambers and wife Melissa of Dexter, and Jason Chambers and wife Angie of Dexter; one brother, David Chambers and wife Sheila of Dover-Foxcroft; one sister, Kathy Chambers of Gorham; ten grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Gary was predeceased by his parents, Alva and Bernice Chambers; three brothers, Jimmy, Tommy, and Billy Chambers; his brother-in-law, Dicky; and one great-grandson, Oscar.

Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Newport. Graveside services will be held in the spring at a date to be announced.
