OTTAWA – Baldemar A. Alafa died 11:12 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2025, at his residence surrounded by family. He was born August 10, 1952, in Mathis, TX to the late Francisco and Eulalia (Vega) Alafa, Sr. On September 3, 1993, he married Oralia "Lyla" Salinas, who survives in Ottawa.
He is also survived by 4 children: David Alafa of Leipsic, Mercedes Lisa (Ron) Larry and Vanessa (Howard) Petersen, both of Ottawa and Eric (Stephanie) Caraballo of Delphos; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Eloisa (Lupe) Gonzalez and Ismelda (John) Vasquez, both of California; a brother: Robert (Alice) Alafa of Texas; and 3 sisters-in-law: Suzie Alafa and Lydia Alafa, both of California and Kathleen Alafa of Leipsic.
He is preceded in death by 3 brothers: Roel Alafa, Feliciano Alafa and Francisco Alafa, Jr.; and a son: Baldemar Alafa, Jr.
Baldemar retired from General Motors, Defiance and was a member of the Ottawa Eagles. He loved fishing, working on cars, watching western TV shows and was an avid gun collector. Baldemar was a "yes" man and always made time for others and his greatest love was spending time with his family.
The family would like to thank the Compassus Hospice Care for the compassion and care they showed Baldemar.
The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2025, at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Thursday until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be expressed at www.lovefuneralhome.com.
