Louisville Memorial Gardens West Cemetery and Funeral HomeBarbara Rose Aubrey, who danced her way into heaven on November 19, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky, after a long battle with dementia and blood cancer; she left this world just as she lived in it—with grace, rhythm, and a heart full of love.
Born in Louisville to John C. Schroeder and Ruth M. Schroeder, Barbara grew up surrounded by family values that shaped her warm and generous spirit. She proudly graduated from Shawnee High School in 1952 and soon after began a long and fulfilling career with the County Clerk’s Office, where she served for 20 years as an assistant manager. Her work not only showcased her dedication and sharp organizational mind but also gave her the opportunity to travel with dear friends—journeys that became treasured memories.
Barbara was deeply involved in her community, especially through her membership in the Pat Greenwell Southend Democratic Club, where her voice and presence were always welcomed.
But for those who knew Barbara, one thing was unmistakable: she was born to dance. Music moved her, lifted her, and connected her to others. Her favorite songs—Lady Soul and Pride and Joy—lit up any room she walked into. Together with her sister, she proudly choreographed the beloved line dance to Lady Soul by The Temptations, a piece of joy she gifted to countless others over the years. A true cornerstone of Louisville’s dance scene, Barbara was also a founder of the Rat Racers of Louisville and a member of Charter Members Derby City Bop Club, helping build a vibrant community of dancers who shared her passion.
When she wasn’t on the dance floor, Barbara loved to travel. Hawaii and St. Pete, Florida held special places in her heart, and she enjoyed embracing her inner snowbird whenever she could. At home, Barbara’s creativity took shape through sewing. With skillful hands and a loving heart, she stitched beauty into the world—crafting her daughter’s wedding dress, designing costumes for her grandchildren, and creating countless handmade treasures for family celebrations.
Above all else, Barbara cherished her family. Her granddaughters—her pride and joy—were the light of her life, and she never missed an opportunity to celebrate them, support them, or wrap them in her love.
Barbara is preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, James W. Aubrey; loving dance partner of 23 years, J.T. Bradshaw; parents, John C. Schroeder and Ruth M. Leister Schroeder; and brother, Jack Schroeder.
Left to cherish her memory, Barbara is survived by her children Vicki Aubrey Welch (Matthew), James Kevin Aubrey (Terrell Miller), and Late Terri Lynne Aubrey; She was the best Meemaw in the world to her granddaughters, Kristin Kidwell and Whitney Welch Jones (Josh); sister, Shirley Sharp; many wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of close friends.
Barbara Rose Aubrey leaves behind a legacy woven from laughter, music, movement, and devotion. Her steps, her stitches, and her spirit remain in the hearts of all who loved her. And as she dances into eternity, we know heaven’s floor is brighter now—alive with the rhythm she carried so beautifully here on earth.
May her memory be a blessing, and may her song play on.
