Barbara Dean Black, a beloved resident of Springfield, Tennessee, passed away on September 16, 2025, at the age of 76. Surrounded by her loving family, Barbara's departure marks the end of a life rich in love, devotion, and service to those around her.

Born on November 25, 1948, in Springfield, Tennessee, Barbara graduated from Greenbrier High School and developed a successful career as a bookkeeper, serving diligently at the Southern Baptist Foundation for 19 years. Before this, she contributed her talents at Roger & Smith Insurance and the White House Utility District. Barbara's professional life was marked by her tireless work ethic and her commitment to helping others manage their financial needs.

Barbara was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where her warmth and kindness touched countless lives. She embraced the teachings and values of her faith, living out the principles encapsulated in Proverbs 31 and embodying what love truly is according to Corinthians. Known for her calm demeanor, she had a rare ability to diffuse tension with her thoughtful words, often gently suggesting, "Let's think about this for a moment."

An avid traveler, Barbara cherished adventures out West, exploring places like South Dakota, Yellowstone, and Wyoming. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, which included gardening and fishing. A Southern cook par excellence, she took great delight in preparing nourishing meals for her family and friends, spreading joy through her culinary skills. Her love for gospel music reflected her spirited personality and deep-rooted faith. Barbara was the epitome of warmth, love, and caring; to know her was truly to love her.

Barbara is survived by her devoted husband of 19 years, Jimmy Black; her children, Kimberly (Dennis) Hodges, James Eric (Elaine) Black, and Scarlett Deann Black; her granddaughter, Felicia Danielle (Bradley) Butler; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Phoebe Madison Lee Butler, Bradley Payton Butler, and Benjamin Paul Butler. She is also survived by her mother, Gatha Oline Mims Jones, and her sister, Judy Katherine Jones McCauley.

Barbara is preceded in death by her father, William R. Jones, and her first husband, Paul Stark, both of whom she held dear in her memories.

In honor of her remarkable life, visitation services will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Springfield on September 19, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and again on September 20 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
