Barbara (Travers) Brady, 87, of Pequannock, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025 surrounded by the love of her family.
Barbara Alice, the daughter of John and Edna (Barrows) Travers, was born and raised in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx. She cherished her childhood in the city, often recounting stories about her family, friends and the neighborhood. She attended St. John's Grammar School, the Academy of the Sacred Heart of Mary High School and Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island. After graduation she went on to teach in the NYC school system.
In 1961, Barbara married the love of her life, John Brady. They initially settled in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, a few scant blocks from their childhood homes. In 1969, they moved to their forever home on Reynolds Road in Pequannock where they lovingly raised their cherished children. Barbara and John were inseparable and always the life of the party throughout their 54 year long marriage.
After raising her 4 children, Barbara went back to teaching in 1987, earned a masters degree from William Paterson University and spent 22 years at Manchester Regional High School, impacting students and making wonderful friends.
Proud of her Irish heritage, Barbara was an active member of the Women of Irish Heritage and was honored as their Woman of the Year in 2021. Barbara's faith was the cornerstone that anchored every aspect of her life. She was an active parishioner of Holy Spirit Parish and Our Lady Of Good Counsel. Amongst other volunteer roles, she taught CCD for 15 years and served on the sunshine ministry at OLGC for nearly a decade. Barbara enjoyed her annual trip to Newport with her daughters and friends for 35 years. Always stopping by her alma mater, to get a picture on the Forty Steps at Salve Regina.
Barbara cherished time spent in "the country" and down the shore, with John and the kids, her grandkids and everyone else who was lucky enough to visit. Truthfully, she was happy wherever she was and whatever she was doing, as long as she was surrounded by family and friends. She will forever be remembered as a caring teacher and a faithful friend but, no doubt, she would consider her role of wife, Mom and Mimi as her crowning achievement.
Barbara is lovingly survived by her four children, Tara Morstatt and her husband Chris, Marybeth Blakely and her husband Mike, Kathleen Kaveny, and John Brady and his wife Kerrie; her eleven grandchildren, Bridget Powers and her husband Will, Maureen Kuczarski and her husband John, Michael, Meaghan, and Molly Blakely, Sean and Connor Kaveny, and Owen, Brendan, Kieran, and Gavin Brady; and her three great grandchildren, William and Connor Powers, and Jack Kuczarski. She is also survived by her devoted caretaker, Aracely Valdez, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her siblings, John Travers and Eileen Hanast; and her beloved husband, John.
Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Thursday, September 11 at Scanlan's. A funeral Mass will be held 11 am Friday at Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church. Interment will follow at First Reformed Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation would be greatly appreciated by her family.
