Barbara Baker Brock, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully departed this world on March 31, 2025, at her residence in East Bernstadt, Kentucky Born on January 30, 1940, in Essie, Kentucky, Barbara was known for her vibrant spirit, culinary talents, and the warmth she brought to everyone around her.

Throughout her career, Barbara operated several grocery stores and restaurants, garnering a reputation that extended beyond her culinary expertise. She became famous for her Chicken & Dumplings, fried chicken, and cole slaw, drawing patrons who eagerly awaited the opportunity to savor her renowned dishes. Her deep-seated love for cooking began at an early age, helping her father in the family old country store, where she discovered the joy of feeding people and creating a welcoming atmosphere.

Barbara's journey took her from Leslie County to Tennessee and Texas, where she continued to thrive as a grocery store owner and manager. Regardless of where she went, she remained committed to helping others, finding fulfillment in extending a hand to those in need. However, the joy of her life was rooted in her family, particularly her treasured role in the life of Emily Watson Bruno, whom she lovingly regarded as a granddaughter. Barbara often shared her love through the simple yet profound act of cooking large meals for family gatherings and her love for making handmade blankets; ensuring that everyone felt cherished and included.

The holiday season brought her immense joy, particularly when making Christmas cans filled with her signature peanut butter and chocolate fudge for her children and grandchildren. Her legacy of love will be carried on by her daughters, Melissa Hill and Sonya Tafolla, and her daughter-in-law, Kathy Whitehead. Barbara is also survived by her grandchildren: Dana Hill, Dwight Hill, Renee Davis, Mandy Jones, Barbara Hill, Daniel Roberts, Dallas Roberts, Mikey Whitehead, Terry Whitehead, Milissa Turner, Curtis Myers, Casey Myers, Cody Whitehead, Heydrienne Whitehead, John Howard, Emily Bruno, Dwayne Whitehead, Shane Gray & John Gray, along with a host of great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who loved her dearly. She is fondly remembered by many friends whose lives she touched throughout her journey.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Baker and Chaney Smith Baker, her sons, Dale Whitehead and Allen Whitehead, as well as her sisters: Eva Morgan, Retha Hamserly, Margaret Cox, Grace Howard, Rose Asher, Doris Estridge, Pauline Baker Roberts, and Alice Taylor, and brothers: John Baker, Miller Baker, Mack Baker, and Maynard Baker.

Barbara Baker Brock's legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her, as they remember her warmth, her food, and her unwavering love. She leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories that will forever be cherished.
