Funeral service for Barbara Jane Brooks, age 74, of Tipton, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Tipton, with Rev. Les Banks, pastor, officiating.
Mrs. Brooks passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at her home in Tipton.
Burial will be in the Tipton Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Orr Gray Gish & Tipton Funeral Homes.
Viewing will be on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home (111 N. 11th, Frederick) from Noon to 6:00 p.m., and then on Monday, November 4, at the Tipton Funeral Home (220 E. Main, Tipton) from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
She was born March 23, 1950, in Tipton, Oklahoma, to Robert Lee and Estelle (Lindsey) Milligan. She grew up and attended Tipton schools and graduated from Tipton High School. She attended college and obtained her real estate license. She was an entrepreneur and had various jobs in several fields during her work career. She was united in marriage to Delbert Dean “Del” Brooks in June of 1987, at Wellington, Texas. In 1991, they moved to Boydsville (Lone Wolf), on Lake Lugert. It was there that she started her own craft business. She had a knack and talent for designing and making all sorts of objects. In 1997, they retired to Missouri, where she managed the Runaway II Lake of the Ozarks Resort. She then built her own business from the ground up. She owned and operated a 2nd Hand Thrift Shop at the Lake of the Ozarks. The shop grew and grew and became an authentic local attraction. She and Del returned to Tipton in 2009. He preceded her in death on Sunday, September 11, 2022.
In addition to her parents, and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, and two sisters.
Survivors include a daughter: Tracy Pierce and husband Jerry Jedrzejewski, of Tipton; sons: James Gamble and wife Terri, of Burkburnett, Texas, Cody Gamble and wife Sarah, of Climax Springs, Missouri, and Jimmy Brooks and wife Renee, of Duncan, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Trevor, Blake, Tristin, Rig, Rori, Roscoe, Madison, Kaeli, Logan, Dacia, Lee, Bryson, Logan, Case, and Corbin; great grandchildren: Violet, Reagan, and Owen; and her four-legged babies: Millie Jo and Trooper, aka “MoMo.”
