Barbara Jean Brown was born to Theodore Brown and Gloria Henley in Hazelhurst, Mississippi on March 27th, 1946. She was born into a big and loving family. Her siblings included Hugh "Jack" Brown, Theodore Brown Jr, Evenell Cora, Vernita "Tiny" Cora, Ray Cora, Victor Cora, Emmet Cora, Willie Cora, Alonzo "Duck" Cora, Leatora "Lady" Cora, Raymond and Michael. She graduated from Parrish High.
In 1965 she gave birth to her only child, Cassandra Brown. Not long after, she moved to Chicago with Cassandra to start a new life where she soon met the love of her life, Ezekiel Johnson. Together they raised their granddaughter Ashley. Barbara and Ezekiel shared many wonderful years together until his untimely passing in 2006.
Barbara created a wonderful life for herself in Chicago. She found herself doing many jobs in Chicago but the three that gave her the most joy were in the administrative side of the trucking industry, in the school system and being a proud rideshare driver. She dedicated many years to volunteering and working in the school system. Barbara was dedicated to the service of students, staff, parents and the community. Those many years of her life were done at McDowell Elementary, Robert A. Black Magnet School and University of Chicago Charter High School. After that she found her new love of being an Uber driver. Barbara did that for 8 years and she always had a story to tell. She truly loved everything she did and those around her.
In her free-time she enjoyed working in her yard, spending time with her dog Marlo and watching reruns of television shows from the good old days. Known for her fashionable style and glowing personality, she was a ray of sunshine everywhere she went, making a meaningful connection with so many people.
On January 3rd after a courageous battle with cancer, Barbara was called home. She was 78.
She is survived by her daughter Cassandra, granddaughter Ashley, grandson-in-law Dustin, great granddaughter Scarlett, her two brothers Ray and Will and a great number of nieces and nephews; in addition, a host of family members and friends whom she adored greatly.
