Barbara Matheson Bryan, 77, of Bladenboro, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2026 while at West Bladen Assisted Living. She was born on December 11, 1948, in Bladen County, to the late Herbert Matheson and Oveline Kinlaw Matheson.
Barbara dedicated her life to being a loving mother and grandmother, making a positive impact on all who knew her. She was married to her cherished husband, Jerry Bryan, for 52 wonderful years. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, love, and laughter. Barbara was known for her generous spirit, often going out of her way to help others, and she never met a stranger. She spent much of her time caring for those around her, embodying the principles of kindness and compassion that were central to her life.
An active and faithful member of her church, Barbara’s love for her community was evident in her devotion to Oak Grove Original Freewill Baptist Church. She was known for her feisty personality and her unwavering faith, which inspired many. In her leisure time, she found joy in fishing and dancing, activities that brought her much happiness and colorful memories.
Barbara leaves behind her husband, Jerry Bryan; son, Richard Bryan and wife Candice; daughter, Lori McLaurin and husband Brad; sister, Ann Pait; and her cherished grandchildren, Hunter McLaurin and Tanner McLaurin. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jimmy Matheson, and half-sister Stephanie Burney.
The family will receive friends from 1-1:45pm on Thursday, January 22nd at Oak Grove Original Freewill Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at 2:00pm. Reverend Jackie Strickland will officiate the service. Burial will follow services in the church cemetery.
Barbara's spirit will live on through the countless lives she touched with her kindness and love. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oak Grove Original Freewill Baptist Church or to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.
