Barbara M. Burns, of McHenry, IL, passed away on October 17, 2025. She was born on May 8, 1939 in Chicago, IL to parents Leroy and Margaret (Schumacher) Beckman.
Barbara was known to be ready with a laugh and a smile and also for her cooking skills. She loved dogs (especially her grand dogs), loved to read, collected and organized her recipes, and was a faithful follower of the Chicago Cubs and the Green Bay Packers. Most important to her though, was her family. She loved occasions when family got together as it usually combined many of her favorite things laughter, good food, kids and grandkids.
Barbara graduated from high school in Madison, Wisconsin and then went to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught third and fourth grades in Kenosha and Beloit, Wisconsin and then later went onto work for Kraft foods where she had a successful career in Payroll and Systems, retiring after 28 years of service.
Barbara and Jack then retired to Florida and lived in Kissimmee. There, they spent almost 15 years golfing, traveling and otherwise filling up their "busy book". They returned to Illinois in 2013 to be closer to family and growing grandchildren.
Barbara leaves behind her devoted husband of 63 years, Jack, daughter Shannon (Steve) Krizka, son Dan (Lisa) Burns, grandchildren Connor Krizka, Aubrey Krizka, Allison Krizka, Kaidan Burns, Megan Burns, her brother Craig Beckman, and beloved nieces and nephews.
Barbara is preceded in death by both of her parents and her niece Stephanie (Beckman) Wheeler.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Les Turner ALS Foundation in Barbara's memory at The Les Turner ALS Foundation • Care, Community, Curehttps://lesturnerals.org/ To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Barbara, please visit our floral store.
