Barbara Jean Carter of Valdosta, age 82, passed away on January 13, 2026 after a long and difficult battle with Dementia.
Barbara was born October 25, 1943 in Hartford, CT to parents Russell Emerson Murch and Elida Holcomb Murch. While she spent a portion of her adult life in St. Cloud, FL, she called Valdosta, GA home.
Barbara retired from Alamo Rental Company where she worked for 30 years as an Administrative Assistant. After retiring, she also worked as a shoe department Sales Representative for Walmart for many years.
She was a kind and caring mother, grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of everyone she met. She is survived by: son Ronald Carter of Valdosta, GA; daughter Carolyn Carter (fiancé Michael Brady) of Valdosta, GA; stepdaughter Jeanie Murch (husband Russ Murch) of St. Cloud, FL; granddaughter Diane Andrews of St. Cloud, FL; granddaughter Crystal Swanson of Richmond, VA; three great granddaughters; one brother-in-law; four sisters-in-law; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins; and close family friend and caretaker “Uncle” Charlie Shaw.
Barbara was always there for her family, offering love, support, and wisdom through every stage of life. Her passing has left a deep void in the hearts of all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will visit before the service from 1-2pm.
