Barbara Lynn Cea, a longtime resident of Pelham Manor, New York, passed away on August 31, 2025, at the age of 80.
Born in Paterson, New Jersey, Barbara was the eldest of two children and was raised alongside her brother, William. She attended local schools in Paterson before graduating from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in New York City. Barbara began her career as a psychiatric nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital, where she met the love of her life, Richard Cea, then a surgical resident. The two would go on to share 58 years of marriage.
In 1966, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army. A year later, Barbara followed him to Vietnam, where she served as a general nurse. While stationed there, she became pregnant with their first child, and in 1968, the couple returned to the U.S., settling in Fort Lee, New Jersey. In 1971, they moved to Pelham, New York, where they would raise their two sons, Nicholas and Jason.
Barbara was deeply involved in her community. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the Junior League, and the Pelham PTA. She was also a proud member of the Pelham Country Club, where she enjoyed spending time by the pool, reading her favorite murder mysteries while watching her sons swim.
A passionate traveler, Barbara explored the world, visiting Europe, Asia, Australia, the Caribbean, and beyond. She had a special love for gardening, decorating for the holidays, and creating a warm and beautiful home for her family.
Those who knew Barbara will remember her as loving, graceful, witty, and strong. She had a sharp sense of humor, a generous spirit, and a deep devotion to her family—especially her grandchildren, whom she adored.
Barbara is survived by her beloved husband, Richard; her sons, Nicholas Cea and Jason (Stephanie) Cea; her cherished grandchildren, Maximus and Alex; and her brother, William (Susan) Rehrey. She was predeceased by her grandchildren, Rocco and Luca Cea.
Barbara will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 3rd, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, New York. A funeral Mass will follow on Thursday, September 4th, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 575 Fowler Avenue, Pelham Manor. Interment will be private.
