Barbara E. Checchi

Barbara Edythe (Nelson) Checchi, 95, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2023 surrounded by family, at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington. Born in Essex, she was the daughter of the late Emery T. and Edith (Anderson) Nelson. She was the beloved wife of the late John L. Checchi, Jr.
She was a graduate of Gloucester High School and attended North Shore Community College. She worked at United Shoe Machinery, Corporation in Beverly until her retirement. She also continued to work part-time for many years at American Shoe, also in Beverly. Barbara was a big fan of the Red Sox and never missed a game. She was also a faithful fan of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She enjoyed playing Bingo and she loved to dance. She loved to bowl in her younger years.
Barbara is preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Checchi. She is survived by one son, Barry Checchi and his wife Darlene (Furlong) of New Durham, NH. She was a proud and loving grandmother to her four grandchildren, Tara Giardina and her husband Mark; Brett Rogers and his wife Kimberley (Tillson) of Dracut, Jenna (Checchi) Gibilaro and her husband Eugene of Winter Park, FL; and John L. Checchi, III and his wife Nicole (Mari) of Wenham; She also enjoyed nine great-grandchildren; Elyssa and Haylee Rogers; Maximus, Thaddius and Lazarus Giardina; Joseph and John Gibilaro; and Adriana and Jack Checchi. Barbara had many loving nieces and nephews as well as many close and loving friends where she lived, at Turtle Creek in Beverly.

Her funeral service will be at Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Friday, September 29th, at 12:00 pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
