Barbara H. Cobbs, affectionately known as "Bob," "Gina," or simply "Auntie," departed this life on July 8, 2025. Born on September 21, 1955, in Washington D.C., Barbara was a beacon of light, love, and unyielding compassion. She was a spirited and empathetic woman whose love for life was contagious. A staunch believer in the Baptist faith, she embodied the verse from Proverbs 31:26, "She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue." This verse truly mirrors Barbara's life, for she was not only a bearer of wisdom but also a purveyor of kindness.
Barbara had a distinguished career as a Management and Program Analyst with the U.S. Department of Education. Her dedication and commitment saw her retire in 2017 after 42 years of service. But her true passion lay in her love for her family. No family function was complete without Barbara's famous Popeyes Chicken coupons, a testament to her thoughtful spirit and knack for bringing people together. She loved reading, solving crosswords, shopping, but most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and family. Barbara was more than an aunt; she was a mother figure to many, always ready to help anyone in need. Her open heart and home were blessings to countless lives.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Karen Cobbs, son, Kevin Cobbs, significant other, Thurman Jr., sisters, Shirley Hill and Patricia Hill, and her beloved grandchildren, Nasir Peoples, Rayna Peoples, Kevin Rawlings, and Semaj Knox. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Annie Hill, brothers, Carlton, Kenny, and Stanley Hill, sister Glenda Ann Morris, and her husband, Willie Jr.
The visitation will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 9:00am at the River of Life Church & Funeral Services, 4207 Norcross Street, Temple Hills, Maryland. The Homegoing Celebration will follow at 10:30am at the same venue. We invite all those who knew and loved Barbara to join us in celebrating her remarkable life.
We encourage friends and family to share their memories and upload photos of Barbara to the memorial page. Your stories and pictures will serve as a lasting tribute to the remarkable life of Barbara H. Cobbs, a woman whose love and compassion left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
