Our beloved Sandra Lee Davis Cobbs peacefully transitioned to eternal rest on May 13, 2025. She was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on November 15, 1947, to the late Dorothy Davis Slade. Sandra was raised by her beloved late grandmother, Elizabeth Davis, and Uncle Booker T. Davis.
Sandra attended Norfolk Public Schools, proudly graduating from Booker T. Washington High School in 1967. She retired from Kmart as an Assistant Manager. Afterwards, she began a career with Norfolk Public Schools, which she found rewarding until retirement.
Sandra was known for her calming presence and no-nonsense words of wisdom. Her humble, faithful, passionate, and genuine nature allowed her to have a profound impact on those around her. She was well-loved by all who knew her. Her gift of gardening was shared with many, and she assisted with landscaping at her church. One of her favorite pastimes was watching her garden grow from her "Happy Place", the front porch.
Sandra also enjoyed visiting family, bus trips, the theater, shopping, NSU football games, thrift stores, fried crabs, art, decorating her home, sharing special times with neighbors, encouraging people through their journey with breast cancer, and witnessing the many accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.
Sandra served the Lord Jesus Christ, joining First Baptist Church of Lambert's Point in the 1990s. She truly enjoyed singing with the choir and serving on different ministries that involved activities such as feeding the homeless, praise dance, cancer survivor group, participating in the Black Nativity, and working with the youth summer programs. Her church family was a true source of joy and meaningful friendships.
Preceding in death are her husband, Burnett Cobbs; three brothers, Timothy Slade, Michael Davis, and Ronnie Slade (Marlene); and one sister, Joy Davis (James).
Left to cherish her memories are her devoted children, Phyllis Johnson (Dewayne, Sr.), Gerald Costen, Jr., Paula Costen (Richard), Sheryl Hunt (Byron), and Tracy Beckford (Tony); one sister, Sherry Scott (Melvin); two brothers, Harry Davis (Gazelle) and Roy Slade; one uncle, Booker T. Davis; eight grandchildren, Phylicia, Brianna, Dewayne, Jr., Kayla, Brandon, Christopher, Collin, and Laila; four great-grandchildren, Amir, Lydia, Tommy, and Rose; two treasured close friends, LeFaye Winn and Wanza Hunter; as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Ms. Cobbs was a wonderful neighbor . One of the kindest women on our block. Anytime I passed by she was always either tending to her flowers or just admiring their beauty. She would also encourage me and uplift me, whenever we spoke.
Her beautiful gentle spirit will truly be missed on Middle St., we will continue to pray for such a lovely family. I know your mother prayed for each of you, may you all be blessed and comforted by our Heavenly Father.

With Warm Thoughts and Prayers,
The Barnes and Martin Family
