Barbara Cornwell

Barbara June Cornwell, age 71 years of Niles, Michigan; mother, grandmother, sister, cook, Christian, and friend died peacefully at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Riveridge Manor in Niles, following a brief illness. She was grateful for the kind and compassionate care of the staffs at Riveridge and Caring Circle Hospice.

She was born on June 25, 1953 in Niles to Ralph A. and Ruth A. (Pinkerton) Liska, and was graduated from Buchanan (Michigan) High School. She was employed at the Bosch manufacturing plant in South Bend as the food service manager for its employee cafeteria. She has lived in Niles all of her life.

Barbara was a member of Hope Community Church in Niles. She was a great cook at home, using various cheeses in nearly every dish including goulash, and creating amazing salads. Even when bringing a dish to a community meal at the senior high-rise, she always created something special. She also enjoyed reading, mostly magazines, often about fashion and home décor, and likely picked-up a new recipe here and there.

She was sadly preceded in death by a son, Lanny Anthony Morris on June 1, 2013; by her parents, Ruth Liska on April 25, 2020, and Ralph Liska on December 12, 2020; and by a brother, Gary Lee Liska in 2008.

Surviving family includes her son, Derek (& Tonya) Cornwell of Galien, Michigan; grandchildren including Makaya Cornwell; a brother, Ralph (& Hollis) Liska of Dowagiac, Michigan, several nieces and nephews; and a circle of special friends including Fredrick L. Edwards, Jr.

The family and friends of Barbara Cornwell will gather at her graveside in Mission Hills to share memories and honor her life with a Committal Service. The day and time of that service will be announced on this page. Barbara loved life, and enjoyed using her gifts and talents to feed her family, her co-workers, and her fellow tenants. But more than the food, was the fellowship around the table; people caring for each other, especially when her family was around the table.
