Barbara Faye, daughter of the late Marion Hunter and Glendola Eva (Lehman) Owens, was born December 13, 1935, in Woodward County, Oklahoma, and passed away peacefully May 8, 2025, at Alva, at the age of 89 years, 4 months, and 26 days.
Barbara was raised in Woodward where she attended school and graduated Woodward High School. She went to Northwestern Oklahoma State College and obtained her Bachelor's degree in Education. She began her teaching career in Baker, Oklahoma, where she met her future husband, Duane Covalt. He asked her on date to go fishing at Clear Lake and six months later on June 1, 1959, they married in Woodward at the United Brethren Church.
She and her new husband then moved to Liberal, Kansas, where she taught grade school and Duane was her Elementary Principal. In 1968, Barbara and Duane adopted their first child, David Duane Covalt and in 1971, adopted their second child, Barbara Michelle Covalt.
They decided to move home to Woodward in 1975 to be closer to her parents and to purchase and run Woodward Florist and Catering. She was a member of and very active in the Church of Christ. Barbara enjoyed gardening, painting, and many different crafts.
Besides her parents, Marion and Glendola, she was preceded in death by her husband, Duane.
Barbara is survived by her son, David Duane Covalt and wife, Kerri, of Alva; her daughter, Barbara Michelle French of Morton, Texas; seven grandchildren, Hunter Covalt-Wiederstein and wife, Erin, of Noble, Clay Covalt-Wiederstein and wife, Lexi, of Edmond, Ashkon Covalt and wife, Ashley, of Oklahoma City, Jarrahn French of Morton, Texas; Aaron Pierce and wife, Katelyn, of Woodward, Evan Pierce of Catoosa, and Alaina Pierce of Alva; two great grandchildren, Lynlee Pierce and Drew Pierce; a sister, Sydney Hendershot and husband, Chester, of Woodward; and extended family and close friends.
