Barbara B. Cox, Beloved Wife & Devoted Mother
Barbara Jean was born to Grace and Charles Blackwell of Atlanta, GA, 16 May 1933. While in high school, she met Billy A. Cox and began a lifelong partnership. Bill and Barbara married 25 January, 1952, formalizing their relationship as both soul mate and help mate, in accordance with God's Divine Law. Following Bill's US Army service, their adventures took them from Georgia into Tennessee. From Knoxville throughout Middle Tennessee, Bill and Barbara built myriad robust personal and professional successes. They raised a family with a faith-based focus, demonstrated caring requires action and always dispensing unconditional love and support.
Barbara flourished in both the home and the workplace. In her professional progression, she epitomized the expression to be more than one appears. As an intrepid chef and skilled needlepoint and cross-stitcher, Barbara effortlessly demonstrated her prowess and proficiency through deeds, not words. Tenacious, focused, resilient and always compassionate, Barbara brightened countless lives and crafted remarkably influential memories.
To maximize retirement, in 2012 Bill and Barbara moved to Fairfield Glade. Accompanying them were their latest pets: two long-haired Dachshunds named Millie and Mollie. Sadly, following 62 uninterrupted years, the Lord ended Bill's journey on Earth 19 February, 2014. Millie and Mollie overwatched Barbara, who vigorously maintained her rigid autonomy and fierce independence. Mollie joined Bill in 2022, leaving Millie as Barbara's steadfast protector.
The Lord reunited Barbara and Bill 8 December, 2023. During Barbara's final challenge, we rallied behind Isaiah 41:10, "So do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."
Barbara leaves behind her loving son, David, who will now benefit from Millie's protection. Barbara will be remembered as an animal lover, particularly of her favorite breed: the Dachshund. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to support the Tennessee Dachshund Rescue.
"Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark "
Tennyson's "Crossing the Bar"
