Barbara Crouse Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels and Cremation Services on Dec. 23, 2025.
Barbara Jean (Sinon) Crouse

Died December 22, 2025 from complications of vascular dementia.

Barbara was born in Barton, Vermont in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. She grew

up on her family's farm in East Albany, VT. She was born to Charles & Alice

(Pudvah) Sinon and was the eldest of five children. After graduating from Sacred

Heart High School in Newport, VT, and a semester of nursing school (which she

freely admitted she hated), she accompanied her grandmother on a bus ride to

Hartford, CT to visit her aunts and uncle and decided to stay. She quickly got a job

at CBT Bank, and began her long career in the banking industry. One evening while

out with her co-workers, she met a "cute guy with a nice car and a leather jacket"

(her words) - Merle Crouse.

They married in 1956, and after a couple of years in East Hartford, settled in Enfield

in a 1961 Starr ranch they had built and where she resided for 62 years. Her idea of

a perfect vacation was one where she would return home by the end of the day. She

loved nothing more than reading her stack of newspapers on the porch. Reading

was her passion. When her children were young, they knew they could get away

with anything if they asked when she was lost in a book.

Barbara loved working – once describing herself as a "job hopper" (she counted

having over 20 jobs). She held a variety of positions in many banking institutions,

and worked part-time into her mid-70s as a teller at a local credit union – that's

where she met her dear friend Chris. They kept in close touch and Chris helped care

for Barbara during her illness.

Barbara's greatest joy in life was her grandchildren. She and Merle made them

breakfast and put them on the bus in their younger years. She was not a fan of

planes but made sure to get to Portland to see Danny.

She was the first to admit she didn't enjoy cooking, but made the best homemade

beans, spaghetti sauce, shortcake biscuits and piecrust.

Barbara leaves behind her daughter, Linda (Carl) of Enfield, son, Jeffrey (Lisa

Cadder) of Enfield, a daughter-in-law Odalis of Portland, OR, her grandchildren

Timothy, Jeremy (Rachael), Jillian and Daniel, and her siblings, Shirley Curley, John

Sinon and Mary Murray. She is predeceased by her son, Daniel, husband, Merle, and brother, Charles.

Relatives and friends may join her family during calling hours on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 from 9:00 to 11:00 am at Browne Memorial Chapels, Enfield followed, by a Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara will be celebrated at 11:30 am in Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Rd. Enfield. Interment will them take place in St. Patrick's King St. Cemetery, Enfield.
