Barbara Curnutte Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kerr Brothers Funeral Home - Main St. on Dec. 30, 2025.
Barbara "Baba" Ann Guilkey Curnutte
Barbara "Baba" Ann Guilkey Curnutte, age 89, of Lexington, KY, passed away peacefully at 10:48am on December 29, 2025. She was born on December 7, 1936 to Lester and Evelyn Guilkey, the eldest daughter of three children in the family.
Currently a member of South Elkhorn Christian Church of Lexington and formerly a long-term member of Community of Christ Church she now joins her parents, Lester and Evelyn Guilkey of McDermott, OH; her husband, David M. Curnutte of Lexington, KY; and her brother, Jim Guilkey of Wheelersburg, OH, in heaven.
After graduating from McDermott High School in 1954, she attended Ashland Community College where she earned an Associate's degree in accounting. On July 11, 1959 she married David M. Curnutte and they were married for 39 years. They were blessed with three children. After spending time devoted to raising her family she returned to work for many years at Ashland Oil, Inc. in Ashland, KY and after moving to Lexington, Lexington Cut Stone until her retirement.
She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Etta Ross of Greenup, KY; her sons, Mark (Linda) Curnutte of Ashland, KY, and Doug (Karen) Curnutte of Louisville, KY; her daughter, Karen (James) Wagers of Lexington, KY; and her cherished grandchildren, Drew (Megan) Curnutte of Frankfort, KY; Mary Curnutte of Bridport, VT; Anna Curnutte of Chicago, IL; Rachel (Brian) Wagers Zhu of Lexington, KY; and Asa Grey Curnutte of Minneapolis, MN, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Barbara was a loving and caring wife, mother, and community member. Known for her deep love for all people, she dedicated her life to serving others through her church and community involvement. She served faithfully at The Hope Center every Thursday for 17 years. She was a volunteer for over 20 years at Central Baptist Hospital. She also volunteered regularly at Clays Mill Elementary and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Barbara always said a stranger is a friend you haven't met yet. She lived her life as Jesus stated in Matthew 22:37-39 as the greatest commandments "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind." This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
Thank you to the staff at Magnolia Springs and Home Instead with a special thank you to her long-term caregivers, Ana Karla and Tasha.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, January 10. Visitation will be from 1-3pm with the service from 3-4pm at South Elkhorn Christian Church, located at 4343 Harrodsburg Rd, Lexington, KY. Following the service, the interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery, 874 W Main St, Lexington, KY.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.

I loved your mother-she was unfailingly kind, compassionate and loving. It was my privilege to have known her! I also loved the friendship
she and John had when he was a lowly runner. I know she is at peace.
