Barbara A. "Bobbi" Porter Denton, age 78, of Wooster, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Smithville-Western Care Center following a period of declining health. She was surrounded by her beloved family.
She was born on July 19, 1947, in
Massillon, Ohio, to Jesse James and Iva Marie (VanDyne) Porter and was a lifelong resident of the area. Before retiring she worked for many years as a route driver for both the Akron Beacon Journal and the Wooster Daily Record.
An avid sports enthusiast, she was a dedicated fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Indians and enjoyed watching racing. She also loved caring for her cats throughout the years. She never turned away a stray cat. Most of all, she cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren who called her Meemaw and Mamaw, her favorite titles ever. She attended any and all activities for them that she was able to.
She will be missed dearly by her children, Bruce (Grace) Gerber of Worthington and Juliana Gower of Wooster; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Botkin of Wooster; grandchildren, Krista Botkin of Eureka, California, Kayla Gower of Wooster, Taylor Gower of Wooster, Jaret Gerber of Dublin, Anna Didelot (PJ) of Columbus and Lauren Gerber of Worthington; Great-granddaughter, Vienna Harper; Stepsister, Candy Chapman and honorary daughters, Addie Burden and Candace Goddard.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Lee Botkin, Jr.; a grandson, Trevor Botkin; two sisters, Shirley Porter and Janet Nirode; Step father, Don Brubaker and step brother and closest friend, Fred Brubaker.
We will remember her profound strength and unique sense of humor. Her fierce love for her family was undeniable. Family was not only those related to her, but everyone that she took into her fold and loved dearly.
We all hold our memories close to our hearts. Long phone conversations and going on the paper route with her. A shared love for animals and the enjoyment we get from them. Christmas time with gift exchanges and always laughing and having fun. She had strength and perseverance and taught that to us. We will miss her unforgettable laugh and how she could find humor in any situation. She was most definitely one of a kind.
Mom once told me that if there were a song that fit the life she lived, it was this one:
