William E. Richardson, age 88, of Wooster, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026 at Avenue Of Wooster after a period of declining health.

His loving daughter was by his side.

He was born on July 24, 1937 in Hartford, Kentucky to Fred and Margrait (Johnson) Richardson.

William moved to the Wooster area in 1954 and has been there for the rest of his life.

He served in the US Army during the 60s.

He later worked as a Spray Painter for Crown Steel Fabricators for over 40 years.

William had a love for softball, he was a exceptional player and played and coached for many years We had a 80th birthday party for him and a lot of the players showed up for a wonderful reunion, he made many many friends over the years. He was known by his teammates as "Red Richardson"

He is survived by his daughter, Jacqueline S. "Jackie" (Richard) Smith of Orrville, Ohio, grandchildren, Nicholas, Jacob, Chandler, Samantha, and Rianna; great-grandchildren, Liam, Sydney, Elise, and Benjamin; brothers, Dairell (Marcia) Richardson and Fred (Barb) Richardson all of Wooster and a sister, Judy (Jack) Gatti of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his daughter, Luanne Planisek and his former spouse and the mother of his children Virginia Torrence.

It was his previous wish that there be a private family scattering of his cremated remains in a beautiful and meaningful spot.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Ohio's Hospice Life Care, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, Ohio 44691.

The family also wishes to send words of gratitude to Ohio's Hospice Life Care for their special care shown to William while in their care.
