George Herman Denton

On February 28, 1947, George Herman Denton was born at home, and on March 6, 2026, he left his earthly home in Knightdale for his eternal home in Heaven with His Savior, Jesus Christ.

George was a lifelong resident of Wake County and was born to Joe and Lessie George Denton. He was born into a family of farmers and was a 1965 graduate of the last class of the original Rolesville High School. He spent most of his adult life as a mechanic who owned garages on Mitchell Mill Road, Zebulon, and on First Avenue, Knightdale. His work was more of a ministry than a job, as he often gave away more than he made.

He spent the last fifty-four years with his wife and best friend, Brenda Meacombs Denton. He asked her months ago, while his memory was declining, if she knew why he told her "I love you" so much. He went on to say that if he forgot everything else, he never wanted to forget that. Especially in his later years, he did not mind expressing his love for his family.

George and Brenda had one daughter, Stephanie Denton Letchworth, but felt like they truly gained a son when she married Kevin in 2000. But nothing compared to the joy he had when his two grandchildren, Carter and Anna (who was perfect in his eyes), were born. He was to gain another granddaughter in just a couple of weeks when Carter marries Lucy. Although he did not make it to see them wed, he expressed his love for Lucy often and was thrilled to have her as part of the family.

George was heavily involved in church throughout his life, whether it be at Beulah Christian Baptist or Bethany Baptist, where he had two amazing church families. He loved to share about Jesus with people and often told of his baptism in Penny Hill Lake many decades ago.

Left to reminisce on his memories, share his funny jokes and quick-witted demeanor, and miss his detailed advice (whether you wanted it or not) are his wife, his daughter, his son-in-law, his grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, brother and sisters-in-law, extended family, and special friends. Left to carry on his dry wit and loving memories will be his amazing brother, Jack. To see these two carrying on was the perfect picture of brotherhood.

George is predeceased by his parents, his sister Alice Melton, his brother Joe Louis Denton, and several in-laws whom he held close to him.

Although we wish there were more time here with us, we are thankful he is with Jesus and experiencing no pain. We cling to our loving and often funny memories of him, and we express great appreciation to 3HC Hospice Care for giving him dignity at home during his final days. We are forever thankful for the time we had with our husband, daddy, papa, and best buddy.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Bethany Baptist Church, 3417 Rolesville Road, Wendell, NC 27591. Burial will follow at Beulah Christian Baptist Church Cemetery, 8225 Mitchell Mill Road, Zebulon, NC 27597.

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 12:00 to 12:45 pm on Wednesday at the church.
