St. Albans – A few months shy of her 100th birthday, Barbara Ilene DeVarney a longtime resident of Georgia, more recently of St. Albans passed away on Monday June 10, 2024, at Northwestern Medical Center with her daughter Susan at her side.
Barb was born at home in Georgia, on September 9, 1924, to the late Edward and Ethel (Braley) Blake.
Barb faced many tests in life that most could bare to stand, she lost her precious daughter Linda DeVarney at the age of 3, her daughter Donna Gramse, as well as in later years her grandson Brian Shappy and recently Brian's twin brother David Shappy. Barb voyaged 19 years without the love of her life Raymond DeVarney Jr., any solace to Barb's journey is that she is reunited with them all in heaven. Barb enjoyed working at her families store Blake's Corner Store in Georgia for a number of years.
Anyone that knew Barb knew, she loved a good outfit, her hair to be just right, a clean home and to go shopping.
Barb leaves behind her daughter; Susan A. Shappy (Tony Snide) of Richford, her son; Rodney DeVarney (Kathy Brown) of Sheldon, her grandchildren; Jody (Michelle), Tracy (Dennis), Lisa (Gene), and Michael (Sara), Chris and Brandy, her great grandchildren; Thomas, Alicia, Ryan, Liam, Ariah, Callie, Marlie, Myiah, Raeshelle, Sophie, Owen and Eli, her great, great grandchildren; Amaya and Luca. She also leaves behind her three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
Along with her parents, undoubtedly meeting her at heaven's gate is her beloved husband; Raymond E. DeVarney Jr., their children; Linda DeVarney and Donna Gramse, her grandsons; Brian and David Shappy, her brother; George E. Blake, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Susan would like to thank Jem at Homestead Senior Living for the years of care she gave her mother, as well as her dear friend Robin Morrill that has always been at her side.
Barb's family will receive friends on Thursday, June 27, 2024, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 PM at Immaculate Conception Parish, Holy Angels Church, 245 Lake Street. Prayers of committal and interment will follow at St. Ann's Cemetery, in Milton.
