Ernest Michael "Ernie" Devarney

Saint Albans - Ernest "Ernie" Michael Devaney a lifelong area resident passed away Friday, May 23rd, 2025, at the Franklin County Rehab with his loving wife and daughter at his side.
Born in St. Albans on April 11th, 1942, he was the son of the late Raymond and Anita (Brault) Devarney, Sr. Ernie was 83 years old.
On November 17th, 1962, in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Ernie married Peggy Roig, who survives him.
Ernie was a 1961 graduate of Bellows Free Academy and then began a career in auto body repair, beginner with Krupps Auto Body and then on his own with Devarney Auto Body Repair. He retired and then went to work for the Fonda Container Company, Vestshell and then Precision Tools.
He served in the Vermont Army National Guard and was a member of Green Mountain Post # 1, American Legion. Ernie greatest joys were weekend country drives, model railroads, country music and hunting and fishing with relatives or friends.
Ernie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Peggy; their daughter, Connie; sister, Carol Meloni and her husband Bob, of Asheboro, North Carolina, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his close friends, David McWilliams of St. Albans, Vermont, Kevin Miller of Isle Lamotte, Vermont, George Greenwood of Highgate, Vermont, Brent Palmer of Milton, Vermont and Harold Bigelow of St. Albans, Vermont.
In addition to his presents, Ernie was predeceased by his brothers, Raymond Devarney, Jr. and his wife, Barbara, Chester Devarney and his wife, Joyce; nieces, Donna Gramase and Sharon DeRosia and brother-in-law, Robert Barker, Jr. and his special pet cats, PeeTo, Kickie and Mindy and dog, Gizmo.
Peggy and Connie would like to thank the Franklin County Rehab for the care and support given to Ernie during his stay.
A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held on Thursday, June 12th at 11:00 AM at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Calvary Cemetery with the Reverend Father Christopher Micale officiating.
