Barbara Finegan Obituary

Barbara Jean Finegan, 77, of Hartford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 23, 2025. She was the beloved wife for over 40 years of the late Rupert "Captain" Finegan, and the devoted mother of Paul Finegan, Sr., and the late Stacy Finegan.
Barbara was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, the daughter of the late Lawrence McKreith and Ivy Mary Grace (Kirkpatrick) Samuels. At the age of 18, she migrated to the United States to join her mother and family who had settled in Springfield, MA. Barbara earned her CNA certificate and, for more than 50 years, worked as a private duty Certified Nurse Assistant. She loved the flexibility of private duty care, as it allowed her to frequently travel back to Jamaica to visit family and friends.
Barbara was a passionate woman who stood by her convictions and loved her family more than anything. She was larger than life and so was her inner strength. Barbara was a free spirit with a great sense of humor, a contagious laugh, and a smile that would light up a room. She was very protective of her family and friends. Barbara had a deep generous nature, especially when you visited her home, and she made sure you were always welcomed with open arms and had something to eat and drink.
Barbara was the life of the party and was well known for her joyful spirit. She loved dancing with family and friends, especially to old-school reggae music. After retirement, she continued her love for traveling and, in her pastime, enjoyed visiting the casino.
Barbara leaves to celebrate her life, her son, Paul Finegan, Sr. of Kingston, Jamaica; her siblings, Michael Hugh McKreith, Alice Fay Thomas, Annmarie Beadle, Bobbett McKreith, Dorrett McKreith, Donna McKreith, and Fred McKreith; step sister, Charmaine Harris; her beloved grandchildren, Kristol Finegan, Kaitlyn Finegan, Brittany Finegan, Dylan Finegan, Monique Finegan, Adean Finegan, and Avean Finegan; her good friends, Mr. & Mrs. Radway, Veronica Airey-Wilson, Olema White, Pixie Messiah, and Rachel Copeland; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other friends.
In addition to her parents, husband, and daughter, she was predeceased by her grandson, Paul Anthony Finegan, Jr.; her brothers, Winston Fredrick McKreith, Martin Lawrence McKreith, and Dave McKreith; and her step siblings, Mechelle Samuels and George Samuels.
Her family will receive friends on Saturday, November 22, 9-10 a.m., with a Celebration of Life, 10 a.m., at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor.
Burial will take place on Tuesday, November 25, 10 a.m., at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Rd., Bloomfield.
