Barbara Jean Fitch, age 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Franciscan Health Hospital in Dyer, Indiana. Barbara was born on July 20, 1942 Alvin and Lucille (Konow) Stelter in Chicago Heights, Illinois. As a young lady growing up in the modest Stelter home, Barbara completed her education at Crete Monee High school. She had a strong urge to serve her country and joined the United States Air Force after graduation. That experience along with her hard work and tenacious drive made her into the strong woman she became.
Barbara had a kind and giving spirit. She was understanding, trustworthy, and thoughtful. Her best qualities were her loving generosity.
Barbara is survived by her daughters Sandra (Joe) Hurd, Carol (Reggie) Meads and Amie Fitch, her grandchildren, Samantha Hurd and Anthony Fitch, and siblings Jean Stelter (sister-in-law), Robert Stelter, Lynn (Stelter) Browning, Donna (Stelter) Beckett, Melvin (Cathy) Stelter, Gary (Ginger) Stelter, Cynthia (Stelter) Jackson, Judith (John)Stelter Radtke and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands, William McGibbeny and Erwin Fitch, (brother) Louis Stelter, brother-in-law's, Joseph, Jackson, Charles Beckett, and William Browning.
Family, friends and others whose lives Barbara touched are invited to LAIN SULLIVAN HIRSCH Funeral Directors on Friday, March 14, 2025 for visitation from 3:00 PM until time of Funeral service at 4:30 PM, with reception to follow.
