Barbara Ann (Record) Gatchell, 88, of Bradford passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at Hannah Duston in Haverhill.
She was born in Stoneham, MA on August 14, 1935, daughter of the late Amos Justin Record and Anna (Kozlowski) Record.
Barbara was educated at Bates College and received her Master's degree in Education at Boston University. She was a special person who positively affected the lives of many people.
In her early years, she was trained in braille and worked with visually impaired students at the Perkins School for the Blind and then in elementary education for the town of Methuen, until her retirement.
Barbara enjoyed a bit of travel and a Broadway musical at the Ogunquit or Palace Theaters. She particularly enjoyed hosting family gatherings where she would cook a wonderful brunch and spend time with her family, crowded in her little apartment, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Her warm hugs and kisses will be missed by all.
She was a talented artist who specialized in oil and acrylic painting. Her beautiful artwork was on display at many art shows through the years.
She was the wife of the late Edward H. Gatchell who passed away in 1999. Survivors include her children Laurie J. and her husband Charles Crevatis of Bradford, Thomas E. Gatchell of Raymond, NH, Andrew P. Gatchell and his wife Mandy of Reading, MA and Robin J. and her husband George Sarofian of Londonderry, NH; her brother Ronald Record and his wife Midge of Saugus, MA; her sister Donna and her husband William McGilvreary of N. Reading; 11 grandchildren Christina, Charles, Hannah, Joseph, Justine, Morgan, Alexander, James, Samantha, Chad and Corey;
6 great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the calling hours on Thursday, May 9th from 5-7 PM at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 South Main St. Her Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 10th at 10:00 in Sacred Hearts Church, 165 South Main St. Bradford. Interment will follow in the Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
In lieu of flowers, please plant a memorial tree in memory of Barbara. Donations can be made to Perkins School for the Blind, Watertown, MA.
