Barbara was born on March 16, 1941 in Melrose Park, Illinois, the first of three children born to Dorothy and Stan Kucik. She was baptized June 15th, 1941 at Irving Park Lutheran Church, Chicago, IL and confirmed at the same church on May 16th, 1954.
She graduated from Augustana Hospital School of Nursing in 1961 and married Gary that same year on August 5, 1961. Together they lived in Wisconsin, Louisiana, and finally came to Titusville in 1968. Their union was blessed with 3 children, Greg, Glenn and Karin.
In 1988 Barbara was asked to manage a new medical center in Titusville, Royal Oaks. It was a position she held for 13 years. She loved her job and those who worked there. She retired in 2000 to care for her mother and mother-in-law.
She enjoyed her Good Shepherd Lutheran Church family and was an active part of Altar Guild, Food Pantry, and the kitchen crew. She also served as the Church Treasurer and the Congregation Nurse and wrote monthly articles for the newsletter.
Skiing and Gator football games were her passions, but nothing brought her more joy than being "Nana" to her ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. They were the light of her life, and she cherished each of them more deeply with every passing year. She found joy in attending their sporting events and various activities and found special happiness baking in the kitchen with them – especially her beloved Swedish Drömmar cookies.
Barb and Gary enjoyed traveling and took trips to Sweden, Europe, and the British Isles. They also traveled to many destinations in the United States and particularly enjoyed trips with long-time friends.
Barbara is survived by:
Her loving and devoted husband of 64 years, Gary.
Her son, Greg, and his wife, Lori, and their five children: Eric (wife Maci and great-granddaughter Kinsley), Amy (husband Conor Szczerba and great-grandchildren, Jack, Brooks and Teddie Lee), Kyle, Jenna and Anna Jo.
Her son, Glenn, and his wife, Jan, and their three sons: Chase, Cole and Connor.
Her daughter, Karin, and her husband, Andy Hiser, and their two children: Lily and Anderson.
Her brother, Wayne Kucik, and his wife, Doris; and her sister, Linda Clark.
Whatever we called her – Barb, Mom, Nana - she meant the world to us, and her absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled. Though we cherish all the beautiful memories of her smile and unwavering love she had for each of us, we will miss her terribly. We find comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the presence of her Heavenly Father and is reunited with loved ones who went before her.
A visitation will be held at North Brevard Funeral Home on Friday, September 19, 2025 from 5-7PM. The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 10AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
