Barbara B. "Bobbi" Haycox
February 10, 1942-October 8, 2024
Barbara B. "Bobbi" Haycox peacefully entered the promised rest of her savior Jesus on October 8, 2024, at age 82. She is survived by the sons she lovingly raised, Tom and T.J.; her daughters-in-law, Jennifer and Bethany; her grandchildren and their spouses, Connor (Natalie), Daniel, Carson (Will), Jonathan, Harrison, Miles, and Mitch (Sydney); her great-granddaughter, Myla; and her siblings and their spouses, Joann (Bruce), Herb (Anne), and Elizabeth (Will). She was preceded in death by her faithful husband of 53 years, Buzz; her father, Harry; her mother, Jane; her sister, Bonnie; and her brother Jim.
She was born in Rochester, New York, and grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she met and married Buzz. After graduating from Old Dominion University, she taught school in Norfolk, Virginia; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; and Charlotte, North Carolina. Bobbi was also a journalist, writing human interest features for newspapers in Charlotte and Gulf Breeze, Florida. Her greatest occupations were caring for the needs of her family and serving in church. She made a joyful noise in the Carmel Presbyterian Church choir. At Grace Covenant Church, she led Yarns of Blessing, a community of knitters who make blankets and hats for babies and cancer patients.
In her younger days, Bobbi enjoyed playing tennis and working in the yard. In later years, she eagerly gathered friends and family around the kitchen table for card games. Feisty and self-determined, she nevertheless yielded to the Holy Spirit in faith. She was an avid Bible student, memorizing psalms and passages of Scripture. In the Senior Saints at Grace Covenant, she was embraced in supportive friendships and loving pastoral care.
The family wishes to thank First Light Home Care and VIA Health Partners for their compassionate care. Please direct memorials to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, North Carolina, 28607.
A celebration of Bobbi's life will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 3 p.m. at Grace Covenant Church, 17301 Statesville Rd., Cornelius, NC 28031, with visitation to follow.
James Funeral Home is assisting the family, online condolences may be made at www.jamesfuneralhomelkn.com.
