Barbara J. Haynes, 78, of Colfax, IN, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Wesley Manor. She was born April 16, 1946, in Paxton, Illinois to Ronald and Benita (Leonard) Conn. She married Jerry Haynes on June 16, 1968, at Onarga Methodist Church, and he survives.
Barbara was a graduate of Onarga High School, class of 1964. She then graduated from St. Mary’s Business College. She worked for Adler Zone Center for Mental Health in Urbana, Illinois, Onarga Savings and Loan, and then she and her husband worked together as owners for Jerry Haynes Real Estate and Insurance. She was a member of the Onarga United Methodist Church and active in Onarga Busy Workers as a 4-H leader, Gilman and Onarga Chamber of Commerce, Onarga Women’s Club and Home & Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening, baking, and watching Illinois Fighting Illini Athletics and Chicago Cubs baseball. She loved spending time with her family and especially attending grandkids sporting events. She will be remembered as a sweet and caring lady, with a tender heart and loved by all that knew her. Her kindness and sweet smile will be missed by many.
Along with her husband of 56 years, Barbara is survived by her three children, Scott (Suzie) Haynes of Colfax, Sheri (John) Howell of Veedersburg, and Mark (Briana) Haynes of Frankfort; brothers, Bob (Jan) Conn and Don (Jane) Conn; and grandchildren, Trent (Ally), Cam (Hanna), Maddie (Jonah), Jack, Brandon (Mia), Bradley (Ashlynn), Hunter, Conner, Nolan, Kenley; great grandchildren, Chet, Junie, and one on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, David Conn; sister, Mary Spencer; and a grandson, Bryson Haynes.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 10am until the time of the memorial service at 11am CST at Knapp Funeral Home in Onarga, Illinois. Burial will follow DelRey Cemetery. Day & Genda Funeral home in Frankfort is assisting with arrangements. Memorials may be made in Barbara’s honor to Onarga United Methodist Church, Onarga Lion’s Club, or Onarga Historical Society. Messages of condolence may be left at www.dayandgenda.com.
