Barbara Nadine (Whittemore) Hopps

September 2, 1939 – November 18, 2025.

Barbara Nadine Hopps, 86, of Petersburg, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born on September 2, 1939, in Havana, Illinois, Barbara was raised there alongside her six siblings and attended Havana schools. She later built a fulfilling life rooted in family, hard work, and compassion for others.

Barbara retired from the Illinois Department of Revenue after many dedicated years of service, but retirement never slowed her down. She worked a variety of other jobs before and after her time with the state - always finding ways to support and care for her family.

Known for her giving heart and steady kindness, Barbara found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved the water, British television, Elvis Presley, teapots, flowers and spending time with her beloved dog, Toby. Later she moved to Petersburg with her daughter Lisa and played an active, loving role in helping raise her granddaughter, Sydney.

Above all, Barbara treasured her family. She adored being "Grandma/Grammie" to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, taking pride and delight in every new addition to her growing family.

Barbara is survived by her children Jeff (Tina) Hopps of Snicarte, IL; Eric (Sierra) Hopps of Tecumseh, NE; and Lisa Hopps of Petersburg, IL. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jacob Hopps; Kyle (Megan, Cora & Ava) Hopps; Cody (Brooke, Hensley & Jerrick) Hopps; Seth (Letty, Jaxtyn & Kashton) Hopps; Sydney (Jon, Margaret & Elizabeth) Kinney; Katelyn (Amia) Meyer; Michaela (Zack, Braxton, Blaire & Brynlee) Cosner; Courtland Wirtz; and Patricia (Camilo & Vivian) Wirtz.

She is also survived by her siblings Andrea Garvin, Kathy Bennet, Craig Lynch, and Julie Towe. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Eva and Clifton Lynch, as well as her siblings Bill Lynch, Charlotte Royer, and baby Ronnie Whittemore.

Barbara's life was a testament to love, perseverance, and generosity. Her warmth and laughter will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

-Timothy 4:7
