HRYNYK, BARBARA J. (née Piet) of Waterford, passed away September 17, 2025 at 86 years of age. Loving wife of the late Robert Hrynyk for almost 60 years; cherished mother of Michael Hrynyk and Christine (Kurt) Mathes; very loved grandmother of Alexa and Daniel Mathes, and Michael Muccino. Sister of the late David Piet. Barb was born December 10, 1938 to Walter and Bernice Piet in Highland Park and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1957. She maintained lifelong connections with her school friends from Ferndale and looked forward to enjoying lunch with them every month at Duggan's, where cruising Woodward and Poodle Skirts were cherished memories of her school days. In addition to being the most amazing Mom and Nan, two jobs she enjoyed working at were Susie Q and also as a teacher assistant at a preschool, "My School", in Waterford. Barb loved to dance especially clogging and line dancing. She danced and enjoyed performing and wearing some very creative costumes in Nickel City as a member of the Shane Gang Cloggers. She also continued to enjoy seeing her line dancing friends at The Round Up. Tennessee Waltz Surprise and Blue Roses were often a favorite dance with friends. Her smile on stage was so beautiful. Barb also loved ice skating and was a member of one of the first adult precision/synchro teams. Many fun years were spent being one of the cool skating moms/watching many Team Elan competitions. A world traveler, Barb was proud to share that she visited all 50 states twice; traveled to China, Central America and nine countries in Europe, as well as 20 cruises. Barb also loved going to her cottage with family at Higgins Lake. Some favorite memories with Christine, Kurt, Alexa and Danny were taking trips including one round of the 50 states with them and cruises. The Grimes Glen hike in Naples, NY and shopping for souvenirs/t-shirts at so many gift shops. Her favorite memories with her son Michael were driving in the corvette at the Dream Cruise and going on the pontoon and hanging out at Party Island on Lake Oakland. She also loved her paddle boating days and marveled that "This is the life!" She so dearly loved all of her pets throughout the years and her most recent spoiled and so very loved cat was Miss Callie Beans. She will be forever missed by her loving family and her many wonderful friends. Family will receive friends Thursday, September 25, 2025 from 4-8 PM at COATS FUNERAL HOME-WATERFORD. A private burial will be held at Crescent Hills Cemetery, Waterford. To post a tribute, visit www.CoatsFuneralHome.com.
