Mrs. Barbara Jean (Snead) Mill of Nashville, IL, departed this life at her residence with loved ones by her side on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 1:50 A.M. She had attained the age of 69 years, 9 months and 5 days.
Barbara was born in Belleville, IL on January 2, 1954, the third daughter of Morris D. and Bernice (Rueter) Snead. She married Leslie Mill on August 5, 1989, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nashville and he survives her passing.
Barbara graduated from NCHS in 1972 and received her Bachelor of Education degree from SIU-C in 1976. She taught one year at St. Ann's School and 33 years at Oakdale Grade School. She retired from teaching after 34 years. Her first job was working summers and weekends at Gutzler Donuts, earning the title of "Donut Queen". Barbara was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a former member of the Altar Guild and Bell Choir. She was selected as the BPW Women of the Year in 1990. As a director of the Washington County Fair Association, she oversaw the Education Department for many years. Barbara along with her husband Les operated the Mill Street Café for 8 years.
Barbara was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2002. As the disease progressed, it limited many of her physical abilities, but it didn't rob her of her witticism and humor. Barbara enjoyed playing softball with the Meier's Market team, cooking and baking with her girls, reading, listening to NCHS sports and watching the St. Louis Cardinals
Mourning her passing is her husband and devoted caregiver, Leslie Mill; her mother, Bernice Snead; her 3 siblings, Judy (Glen) Harmening, Cheryl Zapp and Dean (Pat) Snead; brothers-in-law, Jeff (Debbie) Cipolla and Carl Mill; sister-in-law, Bonnie (Jim) Phillips. She was the beloved aunt of 13 nieces and nephews and many of their friends as well, Ryan Harmening, Heather (Frank) Whitfield, Matthew (Katie) Cipolla, Erin Harmening, Kenny (Taryn) Zapp, Megan (Kevin) Toomey, Casey (Brandon) Miller, Brittany (Chris) Dressler, Caleb Mill, Caitlin (Travis Dieckmann) Mill, Adam Mill, Abram Mill, and Kenzie (James) Tyler. Great nieces and nephews, Ella and Ryanne Whitfield, Nathan, Nolan and Caroline Cipolla, Eli and Iylie Harris, Conner and Bryce Toomey, Kylie and Jordyn Miller, Jillian and Ben Dressler, Ivory Tyler and Grace Dieckmann. Her God children, Heather, Matthew, Megan, Amy, Krista, Nellie and Caitlin; aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Theodore and Bertha Rueter, Glen D. and Vera Snead; her father, Morris Snead; dear sister, Patricia Cipolla; sister-in-law, Cheryl Mill; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl and Lois Mill.
Per the wishes of Barbara and her family, cremation will be performed, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Should friends desire, memorials can be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, SSM Hospice of Good Samaritan or to a charity of the donor's choice and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home, who is assisting the family with arrangements.
