Barbara Kendall Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory - Manitowoc on Mar. 9, 2026.
Barbara Jean Kendall, age 93, of Manitowoc, WI, passed away peacefully on March 6th, 2026, under hospice care at Holy Family Memorial Hospital in Manitowoc. She is survived by her four children and their families: Benjamin Kendall of Oklahoma, Thomas Kendall Jr. (Jackie) of Oklahoma, Renee Sykes (Dave) of North Carolina, and Georgianne Nusz (Randy) of Kansas as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a sister and brother-in-law.

Barbara was celebrated for her feisty, fun-loving spirit and her affection for all things pink. She delighted in storytelling and cherished strong friendships throughout her life. Professionally, Barbara was a certified nursing assistant (CNA) and dedicated many years to caring for residents at an Oklahoma nursing facility. After retiring, she moved to Manitowoc in the mid-2000s to be near her sister and to get a fresh start. She remained active in her community, participating in activities at Lakeshore United Methodist Church in Manitowoc, and the Manitowoc Senior Center until mobility challenges limited her activities. During the last year of her life, Barbara was a resident at Shady Lane Assisted Living and Rehab, continuing to engage with those around her as much as possible.

As a CNA, Barbara was recognized for her exceptional care and compassion. Families of residents often praised her dedication and attentiveness, and she was frequently requested by those seeking the highest level of care. Her compassion extended beyond her professional life, with loyalty and warmth defining her relationships. Barbara formed lifelong friendships, experiencing both the joys and sorrows of outliving many close companions. Known affectionately as "the pink lady," Barbara was admired for her coordinated outfits and stylish hair, always reflecting her vibrant personality. She loved sharing stories, always bringing humor and zest to any gathering.

Barbara's upbringing during the Great Depression instilled in her a remarkable thriftiness and ability to save, which served her well in retirement. Barbara was well known for her knack for fixing and refreshing broken items with nothing more than everyday household materials. This inventive spirit was a direct reflection of the resourcefulness she learned growing up. Whether patching up something at home or devising clever solutions to daily problems, Barbara's practical creativity stood as a testament to her determination and self-reliance. Her improvisational skills not only highlighted her capability but also her enduring independence and resilience. She will be fondly remembered by her close family, including grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, who remained with her until the end. May she rest in peace!
