Barbara Jean Overholt Hershberger Kline, aged 84, of Due West, SC, wife of Joas Kline, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at the home of her daughter, Gina. She was born on February 9, 1941, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Ben and Sarah Miller Overholt.
Mrs. Kline was a cherished member of Cold Spring Mennonite Church. From an early age, she embraced her faith in Jesus and lived a life filled with love and warmth. She had a passion for gardening and was known for her gracious hospitality. Her adventurous spirit led her to enjoy traveling and camping, and she filled her life with joy through singing, exploring her family history, and listening to music. An avid reader, Mrs. Kline particularly loved keeping up with the news.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer J. Hershberger, with whom she shared 40 wonderful years while raising their family on a dairy farm in Montezuma, Georgia. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Faith Elaine Hershberger, her brother, Allen Overholt, and her brother-in-law, Albert Yoder.
Mrs. Kline is survived by her devoted husband Joas, with whom she shared 14 years of marriage; her three sons, Steven Ray (Viola) Hershberger of Montezuma, GA, Michael Joe (Gloria) Hershberger of Newcomerstown, OH, and Titus Jay (Ella) Hershberger of LaGrange, IN; her daughter, Regina Ann (Jay) Raber of Abbeville, SC. She leaves behind a large and loving family; eight brothers and seven sisters; Ray (Verna) Overholt, Marie Yoder, Leroy (Linda) Overholt, Carolyn (Sam) Jackson, Marlin (Cindy) Overholt, Nathan (Rose) Overholt, Galen (Deborah) Overholt, Larry (Ruby) Overholt, Hannah Rose (Robert) Stoll and Fannie (Marvin) Yoder all of Abbeville, SC, Edna (Ernest) Yoder of Cuthbert, GA, Wayne (Ann) Overholt of Greenwood, SC, Mary Lou (Ed) Yoder of Millersburg, OH, Joseph Overholt of Belton, SC, Dorcas (Craig) Mullett of Sarasota, FL, and a sister-in-law, Lydia Overholt of Columbus, NC. Her legacy continues through her sixteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, as well as three step-children, Kenny (Leah) Kline of Sunset, SC, Lois (Dale) Knepp of Abbeville, SC, and Julia Kline of Nelsonville, OH; three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00PM – 8:00PM, Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the Cold Spring Mennonite Church, 226 Cold Spring Church Road, Abbeville, SC. Funeral services will be 1:00PM, Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Cold Spring Mennonite Church.
On Friday, January 30, 2026, the family will receive friends 10:00AM – 11:45AM, at the Montezuma Mennonite Church, 2307 Whitehouse Road, Montezuma, GA. A graveside service will follow at 12:00PM in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions, in memory of Mrs. Kline, may be sent to the Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave. Greenwood, SC 29646
The family is at the home of Jay and Gina Raber’s.
