Obituary published on Legacy.com by Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home - Iron Mountain on Aug. 22, 2024.
Barbara (Cousineau) Langin, 69, of Pembine, WI, crossed the Rainbow Bridge Monday, August 19th, 2024. Though she struggled with illness in her last years, she would want to be remembered as that wild woman always looking for an adventure. Barbie and her sequin hats and boisterous laugh never failed to make an impression. She lived her life entirely on her own terms, right until the end, and her dauntless spirit will not soon be forgotten.
Barbie was born in
Iron Mountain, MI, on November 3, 1954, to John and Joyce Cousineau. In her career as a registered nurse, Barbie provided compassionate care to patients in many area clinics and hospitals; however, it was Barbie's life outside of work that defined her. Throughout her life, she enjoyed many interests and hobbies, from gardening to biking to dog sledding, but horses were Barbie's first and longest lasting love. Barbie's dream from childhood was to have a horse, and she attained this in spades, creating a life that could be traced from one great horse to the next. Barbie was never more at peace than when she was riding through the woods on her white Arabian, Tazzy, and this is the image that will come to mind for so many of her closest friends when they think of her.
Outside of horses, Barbie's other great passion was her family. She married Michael Langin in 1976. Mike did not enjoy horses, but such was their love that he spent their 48-year marriage helping care for horses for both Barb and their two daughters, Roweena and Kerry. Barbie provided a rich childhood for her children, including them in her hobbies and taking them on many trips to visit her large network of family and friends. Later, when her health declined, she found great joy in creating scrapbooks to archive her adventures, as well as to preserve memories of her loved ones and ancestors, including her dear grandmother Margaret, whom she called her angel looking out for her. Given Barbie's focus on family, it is a great comfort that she was able to live long enough to meet her baby granddaughter, the newest addition to her legacy of love.
Barbie is survived by her husband, Michael; her daughters, Roweena (partner Steven Hilty) and Kerry (husband Jonas Swedberg); grandchildren, George and Rose Swedberg; siblings, Dave (Lynn) Cousineau, Sue Cousineau, Kathy (Jim) LaDuke, and Carol (Joe) Monteforte; and many other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and brother, Rick Cousineau.
A celebration of life for Barbie will be planned at a later date.
