Barbara Lu Currie Ratliff, 91, of Garden City, Texas, died on October 19, 2025, after a lengthy illness.
She grew up on the ranch with her brother, Jerry Currie. After her marriage to Arlis Ratliff in 1955, the couple lived the remainder of their lives spent on the ranch ranching. Barbara cooked for the cowboys employed on the ranch daily. Barbara went to school in Garden City and returned after college and taught for one year. She made many lifelong friends in Garden City especially in the Methodist Church. She went to college at Texas Tech where she received numerous honors including Miss Texas Tech and president of Tri-Delta fraternity. She was occupied with gardening and a beautiful yard.
She is survived by her daughter, Laura Ratliff Huitt, and her grandson, Luke Huitt.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Bill and Maud Currie, her husband Arlis Ratliff, her brother, Jerry Currie, and his three children.
The family would like to thank Leza Edwards and Jorge Salais Cardenes and Roger Huitt for years of wonderful care and friendship.
Please don't send flowers, food, or make visits.
Please respect that only the immediate family were invited to attend her graveside service.
The family requests donations be made to the Diana Currie Nichols Scholarship Fund at Howard College, 1000 Birdwell Lane, Big Spring, TX 79720 or Heritage Museum, 510 Scurry, Big Spring, TX.
