Barbara Martindill Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Powell Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Searcy on Jan. 5, 2026.
Barbara Gean (Bennett) Martindill, 88, of Searcy, Arkansas, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 3, 2026. She was born on December 14, 1937, in Sidon, Arkansas, to Elbert Dan Bennett and Beulah (Hill) Bennett.

Barbara was a woman of unwavering faith and a true servant of God. She loved the Lord deeply and never hesitated to share His Word, preaching to anyone willing to listen. She carried scripture in her heart and could quote the Bible for every circumstance, offering wisdom, comfort, and encouragement wherever she went. Her faith was the foundation of her life and the legacy she leaves behind.

On April 3, 1953, Barbara married the love of her life, Leon Martindill. Their marriage was one of devotion, companionship, and shared faith, and their bond remained strong throughout their lives together.

Barbara was a faithful and active member of Searcy Assembly of God for many years, where she served her church family with dedication and love. She was well known in the Searcy community through her work as the manager of Ben Franklin's in downtown Searcy. It was there that she met her lifelong friend, and eventually roommate, Sandra Hannah, whose friendship was a treasured blessing.

While working at Ben Franklin's, Barbara fulfilled a lifelong dream by purchasing a piano and taking piano lessons. Music became a deep passion, and she found great joy in playing until arthritis eventually took away her ability. Even then, her love for Christian music never faded.

Barbara was an avid Arkansas Razorbacks fan and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on. She loved the outdoors, especially camping, and was well known for her impressive deer hunting skills.

Though Barbara and Leon had no children, their home was filled with love. Leon once brought home a stray orange tabby cat, whom they named Boma. He became one of their closest and most beloved companions.

Barbara was preceded in death by her precious husband, Leon; her parents, Elbert and Beulah; her brother Clyde (Marilyn) Bennett; her sister Elsie (Earnest) Weatherford; and her twin brothers, Marvin (Linda) Bennett and Garvin (Peggy) Bennett, and her dear friend, Sandra Hannah.

She is survived by her brother Ervin (Jean) Bennett; a host of nieces and nephews; and many friends who loved her dearly and were blessed by her wisdom, kindness, and unwavering faith.

Barbara Gene Martindill will be remembered as a godly woman, a faithful witness, a devoted wife, and a treasured friend. Her words, prayers, and example will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel of Searcy. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. preceded by a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Searcy.
