Barbara Marx

Barbara (Hanna) Marx, 85, of Greenville Avenue, Johnston, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, October 31, 2025, at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. She was the beloved wife of 50 years to Walter N. Marx, Jr.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Frederick T. and Ruth I. (Phillips) Hanna.

Barbara lit up the room as she walked in and was instantly liked by all.. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and exploring new places. She had several degrees. Barbara lived in and had a candle business in Patten Maine for 17 yrs. She taught young children. She was an artist and a talented writer. She was a woman of many talents and did pretty well for a woman who never drove. Barbara always had a book in her hand and a pet by her side. The page isn`t big enough to begin to describe Barbara's life. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her !!!

Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Edward D. Carlson and his wife Janine of East Greenwich, Richard A. Carlson and his wife Susan of Swansea, MA and Daniel T. Carlson and his companion Mallory of Johnston; three grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and her stepchildren, Craig, Linda, Nicky and Cathy. She was the mother of the late Kenneth P. Carlson and sister of the late Frederick Hanna.

At Barbara's request her services and burial will be private for the family.
