Barbara Jane McHugh, 87, of Stow, passed away peacefully with family by her side on May 13, 2025. Barb was born in Akron, Ohio on December 4, 1937 to the late Walter and Cozie Garrett.
After graduating from Tallmadge High School, Barb began work at the Akron Beacon Journal. Later she was a manager at the Quaker Square Hilton Hotel in downtown Akron. She finished her career at the Akron Federal Building, retiring at the age of eighty.

One of her favorite memories was teaching Vacation Bible School in the Bahamas. In recent years, she attended Faith Bible Fellowship in Tallmadge,
Barb inherited her talents as a gardener from her father. She grew lovely roses and won beautification awards for her yard. She was a good seamstress and baker and passed her musical gifts along to her own children. The family frequently performed together at church functions.
Barb was a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Everyone who knew her will always remember her infectious laugh. She will be truly missed by all.
In addition to her parents, Barb was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Benjamin Lee Hales.
