Barbara was born February 27, 1942 in Decorah, Iowa. She grew up on the Gjevre family farm. She was confirmed at Washington Prairie Church and attended Decorah High School.
Barbara went to Washington D.C. as a member of Girl's Nation her senior year. She went to the University of Iowa and graduated with a teaching degree in English. She received her master's degree from the University of Georgia and her doctorate from the University of Louisville.
Her teaching and later consulting resulted in many moved. She had the "art of moving" down to a science. One of her moved was to Clinton, IA, where she took a job to be a primary caregiver for her mother who was in a retirement home in Decorah, IA (90 miles from Clinton). She faithfully traveled there every weekend until her mother passed away.
After a long career of consulting, she returned to Louisville, KY, and took a job working with and grading practice teachers.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Marian Gjevre; and her sister, Bonnie Green. She is survived by her brother, Nels Gjevre; her niece, Carrie Godfrey; and her great-niece, Cora Godfrey.
