Obituary Barbara O'Connor Smith, of the Vi at Highlands Ranch, Colorado passed away peacefully on September 18, 2021 at the age of 88. Barbara was born in White Plains, New York to Dr. Charles J. O'Connor and Agnes Perrot O'Connor. She graduated from Convent of the Sacred Heart, Greenwich, Connecticut and received a BA from Trinity College (now Trinity Washington University), Washington, DC. Barbara married John "Jack" S. Smith on July 16, 1955 at St. Ignatius Loyola, Park Avenue, New York. Prior to settling in Colorado, she lived in Poughkeepsie, New York; Upper Saddle River, New Jersey; and Savannah, Georgia.
She hand-quilted and loved international travel, shopping, and parties. Her joy in life was socializing and talking to people. Barbara was affectionately known as "the Fashionista" by her family. She cherished her Catholic upbringing and was also a great supporter of education and the arts.
Barbara is survived by her sister, Joanne O'Connor Hynek (Dan), and her nieces Anne Veeraraghavan (Surya) and Adrienne Hynek Margie; her daughters-in-law Debra Perkins-Smith and Kathyrn Strate Smith (Litt Clark); and her grandchildren: Hannah LaPointe (Chase), Malcolm Perkins-Smith, Emily Smith, Connor Smith, and Natalie Smith; and one great-grandson, Maddox LaPointe.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Smith, and her beloved sons, Sean Samuel Smith and Christopher McAdam Smith.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the exceptional and attentive care provided by the employees of the Vi Care Center during Barbara's final years.
Memorial contributions can be made in Barbara's memory to the Agnes Perrot O'Connor Scholarship Fund at Trinity Washington University, Main Hall - Room 380, 125 Michigan Ave, NE, Washington, DC 20017.
