Barbara P. Otten

Barbara Anne Otten, known affectionately as Barb, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 7, 2024, in Lafayette, Indiana, at the age of 94.
Born in Terre Haute in 1930, Barb earned a BS in Home Economics from Indiana State University, which led to a varied career including teaching Home Ec. to Dubois, IN high schoolers, acting as Youth Director for the Lafayette YWCA, being a tour guide for Imperial Travel and having her own radio program with WBAA at Purdue. Barb used her extensive interior decorating skills to design and complete several creative construction and decorative painting projects that made her home stand out. She also created scores of intricate embroidery pieces and was famous for her holiday decorations that covered every room of her house.
Living in Lafayette since 1952, Barb had many friends and was active at Bethany Presbyterian Church.
She was known for her bubbly personality and sense of fun. She was always ready for a party or adventure. In her mid 70's, she learned to kayak, went parasailing and hot air ballooning with her son in Seattle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Otten, and brothers Richard C. Price, Ronald D. Price, and Robert A. "Bob" Price.
Memories of Barb will be cherished and kept alive by her loving children, Steven G. Otten of Arlington, Washington, and Laura B. Otten of Indianapolis, Indiana. Also surviving Barb are her "adopted grandkids" Jeff Karberg and Mary Rawlings, and her beloved cat Charlie.
