Marilyn Alice Wise Pendleton, 78, of Lafayette passed away at Cumberland Pointe Health Campus on Thursday, February 5, 2026. Born in Lafayette on November 10, 1947 she was the daughter of the late Walter H. and Frances Wise. Marilyn was the 1965 Valedictorian of Central Catholic High School and then went on to be the 1968 salutatorian at St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. She married her former husband Jerry L. Pendleton at St. Boniface Church in Lafayette on October 12, 1968 and divorced in July of 1993.
After becoming a nurse, she served in the Labor and Delivery Unit at St. Elizabeth Hospital from 1968 to 1977, where she supported countless mothers as they welcomed new life. She also shared her knowledge and compassion by teaching prenatal classes at St. Elizabeth.
From 1981 to 1991, she chose to devote herself to her family as a stay-at-home mother, while also teaching first-grade CCD classes at St. Boniface. Her heart was always set on being a mother first and taking care of people. Once her children were grown, she returned to nursing at Cumberland Pointe Health Campus, where she worked for 15 years before retiring on July 22, 2010.
Marilyn was an active member of St. Mary’s Cathedral and Blessed Sacrament. She was also involved in the Schoenstatt The Mother Thrice Admirable, Indiana State Nurses Association and Cambridge Who’s Who empowering professionals. Marilyn had met with many close friends at MCL and enjoyed playing bingo earlier in her life. She did not know a stranger and she loved getting to know people.
She is survived by her son Mark S. Pendleton; daughter Lisa A. Pendleton and grand-daughter Trinity E. Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Janet E. Chinn.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2025, from 11:30 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 PM at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, located at 2224 Sacramento Dr. West Lafayette, IN 47906.
