Barbara Pahnke Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lyndahl Funeral Home on Jul. 11, 2024.
Barbara Ann Pahnke found eternal rest Tuesday July 9th, 2024 after a nine-year struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Barb was born on September 14, 1934 in Green Bay WI, the oldest child of William and Evelyn (Allen) Lindquist.
Barb was thirteen years old when her mother passed away, and she was called upon to help raise her three younger brothers. After graduating from Green Bay West High School, she married Kenneth Pahnke on November 20, 1954.
Before marriage, Barb worked at Prange's department store in downtown Green Bay. One of her favorite accomplishments was "selling the biggest dictionary in the store" to a couple that enjoyed playing Scrabble.
Primarily a stay-at-home mother to her two sons, she also put energy into other activities. A founding member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Green Bay, she was also a member of the Ladies Guild and taught third grade Sunday school for a number of years. She volunteered at a local grade school to youths needing assistance in learning how to read. Upon becoming an empty-nester, she provided day care to one special little girl that never left her heart.
She and Ken enjoyed Friday night couples' league bowling, and she bowled Wednesday morning in a women's league. And, of course, fall Sundays found the pair seated in the north endzone of Lambeau Field until their age made sitting in the cold intolerable. Then it became Friday night cribbage games and trips to Myrtle Beach SC with friends, one time riding out a hurricane.
She enjoyed cross-stitching, but her favorite life-long activity was reading. Besides multiple magazine subscriptions, she would come home from the library with a stack of books, and then return them the following week bringing home a new set.
Barb is survived by her son: Alan (Suamico); daughter-in-law: Barbara and their two sons Troy (Hannah) of Quebec TN and Chad (Jenna) of Wilmette IL. Chad and Jenna carry on the family line with Barb's three great-grandchildren Charlie, Nicholas, and Lucas. Barb's eldest son: Dan, resides in Tallahassee FL. Barb is further survived by two brothers: Robert (Bob) Lindquist of Green Bay and Paul Lindquist of Shoreview MN. Barb was preceded in death by Ken in 2020, her parents, her brother John (Jack), and a daughter-in-law Jende.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 18, 2024 at 11:00 am, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 1167 Kenwood Street, Green Bay. Visitation will occur from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Fort Howard Cemetery in Green Bay.
