Barbara Jeanette Oliver Pearman, 87, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023. She was born on August 21, 1936, in Guilford County to the late William Thomas Oliver and Henrette Bradner Oliver. Those who had the pleasure of knowing Barbara describe her as a sassy firecracker of a woman. She enjoyed shopping and loved going out. Any opportunity to leave the house was always seized and used as an excuse to get something to eat. Every trip was an adventure with Barbara, in her younger days she enjoyed taking bus tours and would keep a bus catalog underneath her couch. The food channel was her absolute favorite—she would spend hours watching cooking shows. Barbara will be remembered for her feisty spirit and love for those she cared about. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by two husbands, Leon Bray Pearman and Arthur Phillips; a son, Eric Pearman; brothers, Wilson Oliver, Thomas Oliver, Roy Oliver, Bruce Oliver, Vance Oliver; sisters Mary Jobe, Martha Keys, Nancy Smith, and Matilda Frazier; as well as two grandchildren, Vincent Barry Burgess III and James Andy Pearman.
Left to cherish Barbara’s memory are her sons, Tony Pearman (Anita), Terry Pearman (Sharon), and Barry Pearman (Betty); daughter Julie Hawks; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and many special nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
A funeral service for Barbara will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Bethel Methodist Church in Oak Ridge. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church. A burial will follow at the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Samaritan Ministries at 414 E NW Blvd, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
