Barbara Louise Petersen

Barbara Louise Petersen (nee. Stenzel), age 83 of Ferndale, Michigan passed away peacefully on February 11th, 2026.

Barbara was born February 21st, 1943 and lived most of her life in Ferndale, Michigan. She retired from a career with Social Security in Royal Oak where she met her husband Darrell. They were members of the Detroit Zoological Society and were true Detroit Tigers fans holding season tickets for many years including the 1984 World Series. She was a devout member of St. James Catholic Church in Ferndale.

Barbara loved her nieces and nephews and spent special time with all 5 of them. Even as she faced declining health in recent years, she retained her sense of humor and quick wit. Barbara moved to Wixom in the last year to be closer to her niece and nephew and spent time with her great nieces and nephews, their children and even their pups Charlee and Snoopy.

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband Darrell Petersen, parents Ann and Walter Stenzel, brother Walter Stenzel, sister Anita Walton (Stenzel), nieces Debbie and Cindy, nephew Gary Walton and wife Suzie Walton and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by niece Lori Neighbors (Walton), her husband Joe Neighbors, nephew Bruce Walton and several great nieces and nephews.

Burial took place privately at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Southfield, MI on February 14, 2026.
